Who ever thought Snapchat could get you a new job. That’s exactly what happen to veteran defensive lineman Tony McDaniel. McDaniel has been out of work since last season, but thanks to Snapchat he has a new job with the Seattle Seahawks.
Last week, McDaniel posted a Snapchat photo of the long TSA pre-check line at the airport in Atlanta. His agent, David Canter, saw the photo and asked McDaniel where he was flying to. He said he was headed to Seattle to visit some family and friends.
“[Seahawks director of pro personnel] Dan Morgan and I got into a text message exchange,” Canter said. “I said to them last week, ‘Hey, Tony’s going to be in town. It’s a free workout. Worst-case scenario, you bring him in, he looks like crap, he stays home. You don’t even have to pay for a flight.’ ”
Because of the calf injury to nose tackle Sealver Siliga, the Seahawks agreed to see McDaniel for a workout. McDaniel worked out for the team on Monday and signed a contract the same day.
McDaniel, 31, started 29 games for the Seahawks in 2013 and 2014. The team released him last August, and McDaniel signed a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He will have to compete for a roster spot in the weeks ahead.
