The Washington Redskins have lost the battles of all battles. A federal judge Wednesday ordered the cancellation of its federal trademark registrations, opposed for decades by Native American activists who call the name disparaging. The ruling does not bar the team from using the Redskins name if it wishes. The team will be appealing the decision.
Native Americans and other activist have been fighting for this change for over 80 years. In my opinion this is a change well deserved. The term “redskin” is a very derogatory and belittling term. I do not think Washington will get very far with this appeal. The case against Washington used hard facts that are hard to argue with.
I totally agree with this decision. Let me know if you don’t.
